Re: Nominated For Higher Grades To The KC
I see my post pushed on to a new page, so unless you go back, you can't see that that is what this thread is for. People who were nominated for higher grades but whose Vorschlag was rejected or never acted on.trbooks wrote:It states that the Oakleaves was proposed, but it was never officially awarded
Maybe the thread title can be made clearer?

Re: Nominated For Higher Grades To The KC
Gentlemen!
Thank you for getting things started again. I guess I should have titled my thread "Nominated For Higher Grades To The Knight's Cross". It's indeed for the Oak Leaves,Swords, and Diamonds. I remember reading about Kurt Schäfer being recommended for the Oak Leaves for his skillful leadership of his Kampfgruppe of German seamen of the 2nd Marine Infantry Division. Unfortunately, the recommendation was turned down by the German Army High Command, and was downgraded to entry in the Honor Roll of the German Army. From the book "The Face Of Courage" by Florian Berger. Thank you especially to Marcus.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Fritz-Hubert Gräser was nominated for the Oakleaves on 12.7.41 as Kdr. IR 29. He apparently got the DKiG instead. He would later get the Oakleaves in 1944 as Kdr. 3. PzGrenDiv.

Gentlemen,
I remember reading a thread about Dr. Franz Bäke (Knight's Cross with Oaks Leaves and Swords) about a recommendation for the Diamonds but was turned down by Heinrich Himmler. There must be a few more Swords winner besides Dr. Franz Bäke and Heinz Bär in being recommended for the Diamonds.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Gentlemen,
Gerhard Hein was recommended for the Oak Leaves when he was an NCO three times! He was finally awarded his Oak Leaves when Hein was a Leutnant. He survived WWII as an Oberstleutnant.

Gentlemen,
It's been over a year since I posted the last answer for this topic of mine. I remembered there was a Generalleutnant Herbert Wagner, holder of the Knight's Cross that was recommended for the Oak Leaves in 1945 but didn't get it. I will have to find where I got this information.
Sincerely,
Edward L. Hsiao

Reason: He was surely not a "Rittermeister" [haha] - but a Rittmeister
