Has anybody more information on Friedrich Freiherr Digeon von Monteton and Wilhelm von Hahnke? Were they full GMs on active service, and if so, which were their assignments?

Also, were any of the Char. GMs on active service?

According to "Die Generale des Heeres" and "Die Ritter des Ordens PLM", Udo von Fischer was a full GM, Hans von Sydow was an active Char. GM and Eginhard Eschborn was an active Char. GM before he became a full one to rank from his Charakter promotion.

Thank you! Hahnke and Wilberg are in the 1920 Stellenbesetzungen, but I can't find Digeon. If his promotion was full and active, he would have been the only officer who was promoted between Walther Reinhardt and the May 1920 generals. I wonder what could have justified such a preferential treatment.

Thanks, but this looks very much like a Charakterverleihung at the time of retirement. We have a whole number of Obersten who were retired as Char. GM effective 31.03.1920, but no other promotion of an active general before May 1920. In any case, his Dienstalter would have been 01.04.1920.

Is there also a list of the Glt Char for the same dates?
Thanks, Robert Brockmeier

Missing the 1923 DAL, I tried to compile it from the info I have from other sources (namely the 1922 and 1924 DAL). Is this list identical to the DAL of 01.04.1923, or is someone either missing or falsely listed?

Unfortunately, the 1923 Rangliste does not include a Dienstaltersliste, except for medial officers and members of the HFK. This is a list I pulled from my database of the 1923 Rangliste. The medical and vet officers are the same.

This also shows that trying to piece together actual dates of promotions with dates of rank is an inexact science. Judging from the 1924 Rangliste one would assume that Siehr and Ritter v. Ruith would be listed as Gen.Maj. in a Rangliste dated 01.04.1923. But they are not, as they were promoted later and given a date of rank of 01.04.1923.

Thank you very much! As Campe was the oldest of the 16.06.1920 GL and the first to retire, he was not the missing (3). I believe it probably was Seeckt.
