It seriously looks like Hermann Balck but the absence of a RK makes that theory impossible....so I'm dumbfounded. Sorry.

Mmm could be him before his RK in 1940 but on the other side look at his ear! It doesnt resembles the on of Balck, look at the pics i found of Balck! :S

Hi!

I think that we can rule out Balck, because he received his RK whilst still an Oberstleutnant. Unfortunately I don't have any other options at the moment.

Facialwise I would say: Walter Hartmann.

Slight problem, though. He became Gen.Maj. 1.10.1941 and got the Knight's Cross on 10.8.1941. Can't see something around his neck...

Hi!

Another possible candidate: Walter Krüger. That would date the pic from between 1 April 1941 when he was promoted Generalmajor to 15 July 1941 when he was awarded the RK.

I'm not in favour of the Krüger theory.

Just compare the pictures (facial features, ears) and draw your own conclusions:
