Char Generals Karl Meister and von Schleinitz

#1

Post by Robert Brockmeier » 26 Dec 2004, 18:52

I have a list of the Charakterisierte Generals 27.08.39 and the name Karl Meister appears in it. He is not listed as a Pour le Merite Winner, so what was his promotion based on and what were his dates of rank for GM and GLT?
Also, Walter Freiherr von Schleinitz I have down as a Gen Major as of 1.01.29. Does anyone have his promotion date to Glt, and is this the same von Schleinitz that won the PLM as a Major in WW1? He is listed as Kdt Berlin.
Thank you

Hi Robert!

I'm not entirely sure what the criteria was for awarding char. promotions to officers on the 25th anniversary of the Battle of Tannenberg (perhaps just being alive helped?), but I can confirm that Schleinitz was promoted to Generalleutnant on 31 Jan 1930. Unfortunately I have no info on Meister.

Regards,

VJK

Robert,

I think that should read char. General der Infanterie Johann Karl Meister (24.09.1862 - 18.01.1943), a former Saxon officer. Awarded the PLM on 02.11.1905 for his conduct in German South West Africa.

Generalmajor: 01.12.1914 C
Generalleutnant: 17.06.1918

Glenn

Hi Glenn!

Would you happen to have a pic of Meister by any chance?

Best regards,

VJ
