Phil,
Mackensen (6/12/1849-8/11/1945)was married twice:

In 1879 he had married Dorothea von Horn and by that marriage he had two daughters and three sons between 1883 and 1897. His wife died in December 1905 and he married again, Leonie von der Osten on 29 April 1908, the year of his promotion to general.

Here's a photo of M with his second wife,and step daughter,1915.Obviously his two famous sons came from the first marriage.
