Askropp, I have to ask the source of Obst Kossack's bio because I saw someone else asking if you got one from NARA. The item I am wondering about is m.d.st.F.b. 84. ID 31.08.1944 TO 06.10.1944 because Mehner says 16.08.1944 to 26.09.1944 which fits with Erwin Menny's command ending 16.08.1044 (POW) from Dieter's Menny bio and Heinz Fiebig from 26.09.1944 to 08.05.1945 (Bridgeend Island Farm bio, probably from NARA).

Thank you,
Bill

All the bios that I am currently posting or reworking are based on the Generalskartei (unless I know from other sources that the info listed therein is not entirely correct). You have always to keep in mind that the dates listed in the Kartei, the Personalveränderungen and the Stellenbesetzungen are usually "mit Wirkung von" dates. The actual dates (as from the KTB, if available) usually differ, sometimes the commands even didn't become wirksam at all. In this case, Kossack's successor Fiebig wrote in his Beurteilung that Kossack commanded during the period given, and the card also repeats this (probably based on Fiebig's note). Without doubt, Fiebig was ernannt mit Wirkung vom 26.09.1944, but did not reach the division until 6 October.

Gentlemen,
most sources only have the name Siegfried Kossack as well as dates of birth and death. Never heard of Siegfried Friedrich Otto Kossack before.

Askropp, thanks for the clarification. I had the idea that your officer bios were from the Karteikarten. We are lucky to have such a meticulous researcher helping we poor souls through the often conflicting or spotty documentation surviving, and it takes a German to read German handwriting with abbreviations not well known to the Forum's other nationals. You are much appreciated.

Best,
Bill

Koßack was sent to the Infanterieschule-Lehrgang in München beginning on 21.09.1923. This was the Lehrgang interrupted by the Beer Hall Putsch. He does not list the Blutorden among his awards, so he may not have been among the cadre and students who participated.

The red text above reflects the Dienstlaufbahn in his Personalakte. A slightly more detailed breakout from one of his Beurteilungen is attached below. Note the entry for the 84. ID which gives another start date.
