Hi everyone picture 1 looks like Nowotny. If you look at pictures of him he has a habit of tilting his peaked hat to the left maybe he did this while winning his decorations. Regards Harmel

The first man is definately NOT Walter Nowotny. I will post photos of him before he was awarded his KC and you will see the differences.

Here is a photo of Nowotny taken just before the war. Notice the differences in both mens right ears. Ears are like fingerprints --- as you can see the first luftwaffe officer is not Nowotny. Also the first man has a much broader nose than "Nowi".

Here's the photo I based my guess on...there are some similarities IMO.

Check out the mans right ear. Nowotny does not have a complete lobe as it connects directly into the side of the face whereas the man shown above has a rounded lobe at the bottom of the right ear and his is rounded at the top --Nowotny's right shown in my photo shows that it is more pointed.

You have a point, Nowotny indeed had different ears (as funny as that might sound)...

Mark~

Superb photo of young Nowotny! Thanks for posting it. By the way, does anyone know if the controversy regarding his gravesite was ever resolved/put to rest? There was some discussion about a year ago about a nauseating plan by certain Austrian officials to relocate his remains.
