In his biography it's said, tha he was wounded in his very first action during the assault on Crete on the 20th May 1941 and was at a hospital in Athens for months.. (I did not find the number of his division, company or platoon). Showing sympathies for the allies, he will be ignored by the Nazi leaders.

According to other sources, he never was sent again to the front.

Is it known if he was involved in any fisticuffs with the Kiwi Maoris on landing?! Does his autobiography state if he killed or injured any Allied soldiers on Crete?

It's not stated, but very unlikely, because he is told to having broken his leg at his first landing and his front experience lasted only two days, according to several german sources.
