Info please for Oberstleutnant Gunter Viezenz?
He is the highist scoring holder of the "Tank Destruction Badge" so... there MUST! be stories and other pictures on the field... anything will do. He was a Panzer Commander so... how did he gets his badges? Leaving the Panzer and going for a hunt or?
Thanks....

Viezenz first name was not Gunter. Viezenz was not Oberstleutnant. Viezenz did not hold most tank destruction badges. Viezenz was not a tank commander. Best regards/
Daniel

True that he wasn't an Oberstleutnant, at least not in World War II (his final wartime rank was Hauptmann). He did, presumably, hold the rank of Oberstleutnant with the Bundeswehr as he rose to the rank of Oberst with that army.
If not Viezenz, who DID hold the most Panzervernichtungsabzeichen?
Here's what das-ritterkreuz.de has on him (at http://das-ritterkreuz.de/index_search_ ... word=Vieze , which includes a photo):

Hauptmann Viezenz, Günther
* 01.02.1921 Göhlenau, Krs. Waldenburg/Schlesien
+ 14.01.1999 Köln

Ritterkreuz am: 07.01.1944
als: Oberleutnant
Funktion: Chef 10./GrenRgt. 7

Bundeswehr: Von 01.04.1956 bis 30.03.1980 Zuletzt [ultimately]: Oberst

Best wishes,
~ Mike

wiki quotes him as being the highest holder of the award (not saying that is 100% accurate, just going through the thought process) and their reference for that claim is:
"Angolia, John (1987). For Führer and Fatherland: Military Awards of the Third Reich. R. James Bender Publishing. ISBN 0912138149"
where did the above get his figures from in 1987 and why did he settle on Viezenz? ive never heard of the book so unfortunately cant see his sources for that claim. if it was an incorrect assumption why has that become the Internets go to answer?
is there any evidence anyone got higher amount of badges (or the same) than Viezenz?
if there is no evidence anyone actually received more can we therefor state "the highest KNOWN...was Viezenz"???
are we then really able to honestly say "he WASNT" the record holder if we dont actually know any different?
kind regards
tim

Günther Viezenz had 7 TDB's, according to his Soldbuch-"Zweitschrift". It is currently listed for sale at eMedals, together with other documents.
