Youngest Generals in Wehrmacht and SS?

#1

Post by anselmo1 » 06 May 2005, 02:48

I would like to know the youngest General in the Wehrmacht that fought from 1939 to 1945. In addition, I would also like to know the youngest of the Waffen SS generals. Are their any Wehrmacht or Waffen SS generals still alive today? Also, any color pictures of these generals posted would be greatly appreciated.

I was watching a documentary last night that said REinhard Heydrich was the youngest general in the SS, at least in 1940. Im not sure if it is true.

Hello,

I can tell the 4 youngest generals in the Wehrmacht (Heer):

- Generalmajor Erich Bärenfänger (30)
- Generalmajor Harald von Hirschfeld (31)
- Generalmajor Otto-Ernst Remer (32)
- Generalmajor Horst Niemack (36)

As far as I know, there is no SS general alive now. The latest lived ex-SS-general is Otto Kumm who died last year. The second latest is Mohnke and third is Harmel (2000?). Hope helpful.

Panzer Meyer was considered the youngest General in the Waffen SS after he was promoted to Brigadeführer and took over command of the 12th SS after the death of Fritz Witt. I believe he was 34??

Gentlemen,

Generalleutnant Theodor Tolsdorff, holder of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds was 36 at the War's end! (Heer)

Harald von Hirschfeld was posthumously promoted to Generalleutnant. That made him the youngest Generalleutnant of the Heer.

Generalleutnant Adolf Galland (Luftwaffe),holder of the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds was 33 at the War's end!

Sincerely,

Edward

I remember Heydrich got his general rank-Brigadeführer at his 29.
So far, nobody can beat his record in SS...

Heydrich was a political leader !! The question was, however, for generals who fought at the front. I don't want to add Heydrich to these men.

Ingo, the topic covers the youngest generals in the Wehrmacht & SS proper. That means all branches of the SS.
btw, I just remembered a wonderful but woefully neglected function in this forum: The search function.

Walter Schellenberg was promoted SS-Brigadeführer und Generalmajor der Polizei by 34.

Werner Mölders was promoted to Generalleutnant by age 29.
The latest lived ex-SS-general is Otto Kumm who died last year.
Otto Kumm passed away last year??? When was this? Dammit, I was thinking of writing to him. Did he speak English? (Ich nicht sprechen deutsch sehr gut) Pity . . .
