Phil -

He's not in my data base of all Luftwaffe officers in pay grade Hptm. and above. Perhaps he was killed or medically discharged in 1941. His 5.Battr./Flak-Rgt. 22 was a pretty active unit that supported front line Heer combat formations, so a 49 to 51-year-old Major would be a rare bird indeed if he was a front line Batterie-Chef. Something doesn't sound right with this. Majors rarely commanded batteries after 1938 for starters, and definitely not someone of that age.

Very interesting, Phil. It almost looks to me like he just wanted a taste of combat so he got himself posted to I./Flak-Rgt. 22, which at that time, 3 Dec 41, was at Mtsensk/NE of Orel operating under Flak-Regimentsstab 101. His 5.Battr. was a leichte Flakbatterie of 20mm guns. Since he doesn't show up in any of the Luftwaffe personnel orders and documents that I have on microfilm and in some published material, could we presume that his records and assignments were regulated and maintained by the SS?

This would have set no precedent, since Heydrich had several short-term postings to Jagdgeschwader 77 in Norway (1940) and then in South Russia (1941) so he could fly fighter missions.

Bonjour,
i agree with Larry,and perhaps
He was SS Oberführer and "work" in SS- Personalhauptamt (Chef des Personalhauptamt : SS-Gruf Schmitt, Walter ) and the Luftwaffe Major der Reserve Peter Menthe has to make military period .?
