Max,

could you have a look in "Göring" by David Irving ??
He describes in detail the developments and circumstances: personal depression, some relatives had been killed in action, unauthoized reproaches by Göring ("Sie stehen wie ein Leutnant mit den Händen an der Hosennaht vor dem Führer"), the Göring' s "Hofkamarilla", the "Unternehmen Gomorrha" (The bombing raid to Hamburg, much more bigger then later Dresden !!) and so on.
