General of Artillery Fretter-Pico

#1

Post by Gerst » 19 Jun 2005, 06:15

My father served with General Fretter-Pico through the Crimea, Leningrad, the Rzhev Salient and the defensive battles at the Donetz and Don Rivers. Does anyone have photos of this period? I have photos of Voroshilovgrad and the area but no combat pictures of the XXX Armeekorps or of Armeeabteilung Fretter-Pico. Can anyone help me?

Danke, mein Freund. Is das XXX Armeekorps Bild aus der Krim? Wer is der andere Offizier im Bild?

That' s indeed the question, dear Gerst!! I have not the slightest idea. (I got the pics about 40 years ago when I was not yet a serious collector).

Fretter-Pico - XXX Armeekorps

Fretter-Pico took over from Salmuth on December 27, 1941. The photo with him and the other officer was probably taken the next year during the final stages of the Crimean campaign. The Crimean camopaig ended in July, 1942. The XXX Armeekorps was transferred to Leningrad in August.

Frettter-Pico and Friessner

Friessner was the C-i-C of Army Group South Ukraine and Army Group South in summer and fall of 1944. That's probably when the photo with Fretter-Pico was taken.

The other photo is tough. The only way to figure that one out is to take all the divisions of the XXX Corps and get photos of the generals (that assumes that the other guy is a division commander). Why not post the picture?
