Mystery Division

Hello all- Besides the mystery of Erich Baessler and "191, Reserve Div" I have a similar one I can't figure out. Maybe someone has information that will solve the mysteries with this general's apparently nonexistent division command.

Paul Bader is listed by both Bradley and Mehner ("Die Deutsche Wehrmacht") as commanding 189. Division from 10/39 to 4/41. However, according to Tessin, 189. Reserve Div wasn't formed until September 1942. There is no record of an earlier 189. Div. A typo? Can anyone help? Appreciate it.

Best regards,
Genstab

Bill,

I have problems with your topic.
As well in my book "Die deutsche Wehrmacht ..." by Mehner as in "Die Generale des Heeres", Vol. 1, by Bradley and others
I can' t see Paul Bader in connection with a unit # "189". !!
Where is the mistake / error / solution !?!

Dieter, I'm sorry- I can't read my own printing! That's Paul BAUER, not Bader. Both Bradley and Mehner refer to it as 189. Infanterie Division. But Tessin says it didn't exist before Sept. 1942.

Best from the Northwest,

According to Mitcham's 'Hitler's legions'

"This division was born as Replacement Division Staff 189 in the fall of 1939. It conducted training operations in Thuringia until the latter part of 1942, when it was upgraded to reserve division status and was sent to France..."
