This photo of Austermann clearly shows him wearing Oakleaves. I can't find any record of an award to him.

What number of Eichenlaub was he? Was he officially registered as a recipient of this award?
Can't find any info in english, only in http://www.das-ritterkreuz.de but it's in german and I don`t understand it.
Any help is appreciated.
Best,

FANGIO

There is no proof in the German archives to prove Austermann was awarded the Knight's Cross + Oakleaves. The fact that he is wearing them doesn't prove anything, the photograph could have been taken after the war! I have a photo of Generaloberst Alfred Keller wearing the Knights Cross and he was never awarded it.

The award according to the Knights Cross Association was on 20th April 1945 but that was taken from Austermanns mouth, and no prrof or backup has ever been found. Therefore the award is illegal and doesn;t count.

I am poutting together a book on all the Oakleaves winners and will cover illegal awards

The photo is clearly retouched. The Oakleaves are upside-down, aren't they ?
Retouched photos themselves are not the problem as this was done often by the studios to have photographs with higher grades of the KC.
Retouched photos of men who didn't receive the award are a problem. Or questionable cases where are no official papers but items handed out.
Austerman is not even mentioned with the EL by Scherzer.

regards, Bernd
