I am now able to add a partial name to the unidentified Italian Colonel with the CPOBD. He is Colonel TEUCCI an Italian Air Force Aide to the King of Italy. See the photos of him below. Does anyone have any info on him? He is now the 83rd confirmed recipient of the high award.

Hello Mark,

He is Italian Colonel Giuseppe Teucci, the Air Attache to Italy's Embassy in Berlin.

Best,

James:

Wonderful !! The info I had on this guy was very slim and I found it hard to believe an aide to the King would receive such an award. But this new information makes all the sense in the world now !!

Malvinas:

Von Below is not wearing a diamond badge in the photo above. It is in fact a cloth embroidered version of the CPOB. I have only seen a couple of photos of him actually wearing his diamond badge.

An update to my list of recipients of the Combined Pilot/Observer Badge with Diamonds. Photographic evidence is now available to place Herbert Ihlefeld in the ranks of indentified recipients. The photo shown below has always been cropped so as not to show Ihlefeld and Druschel. The complete photo is shown below. As shown, Ihlefeld's badge as well as Druschel's and Helbig's can clearly be seen. The photo was taken at the famous meeting with Hitler of the surviving Luftwaffe Swords and Diamonds holders on January 20, 1944. Note the differences between their diamond badges and Gollob's "standard" badge. Ihlefeld is the 83rd known confirmed recipient of this rare award. Of the 83, only one person remains unidentified -- a French aide to General Vuillemin. A complete new list is also shown below with several "possible" recipients.

It is also interesting to note, that of the 15 Luftwaffe aces that attended that January 20, 1944 meeting with Hitler, only 2 of them, Rall and Wilcke were not awarded this diamond badge.

Hi, it's been a long time since I added something here. Here's a nice photo of Oberst Hajo Hermann holding his PO badge with Diamonds:

Malvinas:

The photo just above of Catlos does NOT show him wearing the Diamond PO badge. You are confusing it with two Slovakian Pilot Badges which are similiar in appearance. These are shown below. Catlos is wearing both of these type badges in the photo above.
