Generalleutnant Siegfried Verhein
I need very much a photo of Generalleutnant Siegfried Verhein. He was commander of the 551. Volks-Grenadier-Division from October 1944 to the end of the war and fought in Lithuania and East Prussia (Samland).
I am researching for a book.
Do anyone know more about this general?

Hi Dieter, most books stated that Verhein was captured as 551 VGD division commnader but I find that Soviet sources said he was captured as 28 Jager divison kdr. sometimes Soviet sources is reliable. Did your sources had data on Generalmajor Arning and Generalleutant Beck ? . Soviet sources said that they captured Arning as 304th infantry division kdr but other Soucres like ABR said he was commandant of Matrisch-Ostrau. Soviet sources said that they captured Generalleutant Beck as 31st VGD commander , but I cannot find his data. But other soviet sources is correct. Your sources can help me that ?

our topic is quite clearly Siegfried Verhein - and nobody else !!
If you want to discuss or to get informations about other german generals supposably in Soviet captivity it is absolutely essential to start a new thread for each.

Hi Kelvin.
When the Soviet forces captured Verhein, he commanded 28. Jäger-Division. After April 20th, 1945, rests of both divisions were withdrawn from Pillau to "Frische Nehrung". Rests of 551. Volksgrenadier-Division – only around 300 men were formed into the 28. Jäger-Division, and Verhein became the new commander.
Greetings from Denmark
Ove
