Hi V!

Is it Theodor Haselmayr Edler von Fernstein? Did you recognize him or do you have a caption? Outstanding. I would have never recognized him.

Best!
Jürgen

Moin Jürgen,

sorry, but it is Friedrich "Fritz" Haselmayr, Generalleutnant z.V. and SA-Obergruppenführer

Happy New Year to you and your family

Hi gents!

Dieter is of course correct - I knew it was Haselmayr but I was too lazy to check my files for the right first name because of the late hour. Sorry about that!

Best regards,

VJ

A very interesting picture. I have never seen a photo of an NSDAP leader with the SS eagle on the sleeve. Wonder what that's all about...

There's a possibility he's involved with the administration of the local Generalbezirk (presumably Wolynien-Podolien, of which SA-Ogruf. Heinrich Schoene was Generalkommissar, as that was the area under Haselmayr's jurisdication from 26.12.1941 - 01.12.1942 (see Haselmayr biography at http://www.geocities.com/~orion47/WEHRM ... FRITZ.html ); perhaps a Gebietskommissar within that region. As we've seen in photos of Wilhelm Brückner (and one I recently saw of an apparent SA adjutant to Terboven in Norway), Heer and Waffen-SS eagles were sometimes sewn to the sleeves of SA tunics during wartime (it would be great if someone had the date and text of the official order authorizing this), and I can only suspect but I bet it had something to do with the fear of the boys in brown being perfect targets for snipers if they wore their bright red armbands in the occupied territories. Perhaps the same applied to NSDAP officials such as the one in this photo.

Best,
~ Mike
