Martin passed away last night 8th of February after a long spell of illness. A grand supporter of the nachtjäger element at the RK treffens his last command was Gruppenkommandeur of IV./NJG 6 and an ace with 58 night kills. Probably his most dynamic exploit was when he was flying his Ju 88G-6 on the Nürnberg defence on the evening of 14/15 March 1945 taking down 6 RAF bombers with his four forward firing 2cm weapons, running out of ammo his Bordfünker and later RK winner Karl Johanssen was giving info to Martin from the Fug 350 naxos and then took up the rearward firing MG 131 and shot down 2 more Lancasters and 1 RAF 100th group B-17 amdist a radio fire which the other two crewmen put out. Their particular Ju 88 did not have Schrägwaffen. It has been a joy to receive first hand impressions from Karl as Martin was too ill even some years back to correspond effectively

RIP Martin
