There is still alive, in Tartu, one veteran, who served a SS-Flak-Abteilung 5. He’s name is Mihhail Bendt. 2007 he wrote a book “Edukas Algus, Väärikas Lõpp”, but there is nothing about service in SS-Flak-Abteilung 5.
Mihhail Bendt was a 1. number of MG grew in the 3. Zug; 2. Kompanie of Bat. “Narwa”, in the Wiking Division. As he told in Bat. “Narwa” history book II “Terasest Tugevamad” – in May 1943, 80 men from Bat. “Narwa” were transferred to the other units of Div. “Wiking” - SS-Panzer Artillerie Regiment 5; SS-Flak-Abteilung 5 and SS-Panzer-Aufklärungs-Abteilung 5. As Bendt said in the book, from these 80 men, in 1997 were 7 veterans still alive.
23. July 1943 also Bendt and another Estonian, from Bat. “Narwa”, were transferred to the SS-Flak-Abteilung 5. He was a gun layer on the 2cm Flak cannon. At this time his battery was subordinated to the 3. Bat. Of “Westland” and used for shooting land targets on the frontline.
18. Aug. 1943 in the battle of village Maksimovka, he got twice wounded and transported to the hospital. After hospital, he was in the genesungs-kompanie of SS-Flak-truppen in München and later appointed to the reserve of Reg. „Deutschland” – Div. „Das Reich” at the same location. There he passed a course of driver in the school of Waffen-SS in Dachau.
2. Jan.1944 he is back in the Div. Wiking located in Korsun. As he told, from his previous battery was nobody left and his new battery was manned with Dutch.
At the time of the breakout battles from the pocket 16.02.1944, his battery (at this time self-propelled) was again subordinated to the 3. Bat. of “Westland”. There he was wounded again and was carried out from the pocket by Wallonia’s.
After hospital, he was again in the “Deutshland” reserve in München.
On the picture, there are a five friends, comrades from the 3. Zug of the 2. Company (bat. “Narwa”) in the vacation Apr.1944. M.Bendt is in the middle.
Other two pictures are from the Bendt`s book and these are taken in the Tserassy pocket.

In October, Editions Heimdal will publish a book on SS-Flak-Abt. 5 with 200+ photos (all of them never published before).

My father Manu Tapio Korpinen served in SS-Flak-Abt. 5. In addition to that, his friends Aarre Jylhänmaa and Lars Bergius. I'd recommend you to try and find this book: Suomalaisten Waffen-SS vapaaehtoisten matrikkeli 1941-1943, printed by Gummerus Kirjapaino Oy.

So i have found that the person im looking for in pics was only Finnish in 88flak gun. Other finns of flak abt.5 were on smaller guns. So any pics of 88 gunners of flak abt 5?

Did Finns served in 3. Bttr. SS-Flak-Abteilung 5?
I am interesting any information regarding 3. Bttr. SS-Flak-Abteilung 5 and all Abteilung during summer fighting on east part General Government - beetween rivers Bug and Vistula.
