Hi

I'm looking for any info about a german unit called Kustenjager which had certainly fought at Leros in 1943.

Any info (dependance, strenght, etc.) is appreciated

Thanks
Lupo

Ciao Lupo,
Küstenjäger units were part of the Division Brandenburg of Abwehr. They were used for raids in coastal areas (hence the name). Some of them had a short stay in Italy (Elba), others were operating on the Croatian coast. I'll check for details in my stuff.
Ciao
C.G.

Hi Lupo,
I couldn't find very much. Part of the Brandenburg stuff has disappeared from my office, probably buried under tons of paper.
However, I did find a confirm for Küstejäger-Abteilung and Leros. The unit was definitely there, but unfortunaltely I didn't find anything more that that.
There is a good british book dealing with Leros: Peter Smith/Edwin Walker, War in the Aegean, W.Kimber, London, 1974.
I you try a Google Search for "Küstenjäger" you'll find some more German information on it. A new German book on the unit was published in 2003 by Waldemar Trojca.

I presume you have read 'Churchill's Folly'? If not, that book at least details the use of the Brandenburger on Leros and Kos. Very good book.

Division Brandenburg had separate battalion like Kustenjager, Fallschrimjager and tropical battalion. But the four regiment of Brandenburg division are normall infantry ? Or also have special function or good at special warfare ? Thank
