LSSAH Units in the Eastern Front Questions

#1

Post by DerFreiKorpMann » 09 Apr 2016, 15:36

I was researching on the LSSAH and the units involved in the battle of Uman, and I found out from (http://www.feldgrau.com/1ss.html) that the XXXXVIII corp from the 1st Panzergruppe was in the area of Uman, that the/a Reserve corp of the Reserve from the 1st Panzergruppe and the XXXXVIII corp from the 4th Panzer Armee were in Shitomir/Zhitomir.

I want to know if these are credible sources and if they are, when were they in those areas, for how long, and why? What other sub-units of the LSSAH were under the XXXXVIII?

Danke!

Here is the war diary of the XXXXVIII A.K. (mot.) for 1 - 10 Aug 1941. Unfortunately I don't have the Anlagenband to the August 1941 war diary. If you want to look at previous dates T314 R1139 is on the Free List. T313 R3 (PzGrp 1) is also on the Free List see frames 647 - 648 for a overview map of the actions of PzGrp 1, which is a good idea of the actions of the LSSAH during the time period.

Danke, Jeff Leach! I'll get a friend of mine to translate this once he gets back from the holidays! :D
Btw, where did you get these and are there more of these online or somewhere accessible? :)

the two rolls I referred to are here. The war diary from which I posted the above pages isn't on the free list.

The daily maps of South Front can be found at https://pamyat-naroda.ru/dou/ just put ЮжНФ in the force (часть) field and select map (карты) as the type of document. They show the Uman Encirclement in some detail. There are more than 100 maps so don't forget to enter dates that give less than 100 hits so you see all the documents that are available.
