Panzerdivision near Streigau in Niederschlesien 1945 ?
I'm looking for any information about some panzerdivision (Wehrmacht not Waffen SS) which was located in Streigau (now Strzegom) near Schweidnitz (now Swidnica) and Jauer (now Jawor) in Niederschlesien (January and February 1945). The name of commander this panzerdivision (or small formation from this division) was major dr Schulz or major Fuchs. Do you have more information about this formation and commander?

Re: Panzerdivision near Streigau in Niederschlesien 1945 ?
Hello,
the first tank division to arrive in the area of Striegau - Jauer seems to have been 19. Panzerdivision which arrived around Feb. 9th, followed by 8. Panzerdivision. (Source: http://www.schweidnitz.net/nawrocki_1945.pdf)
Further to the SE, east of Mount Zobten 20. Panzerdivision operated. 8. Panzerdivision was soon moved further to the NW while 19. Panzerdivision remained in the area for some time.
I don't have any details on unit commanders but all divisions were subordinated to 17. Armee commanded by Gen. d. Inf. Friedrich Schulz.
Best regards
Torsten

Thank you Torsten
I think that misunderstanding with Schulz and Fuchs is that Schulz was the 17. Armee commander, and major Fuchs was commander one of the Schulz subordinate.
But in http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... n/19PD.htm I found information that in January 1945 the 19. Panzer-Division was in Radom, not in Schlesien. Maybe in January 1945 near Streigau was located 20. Panzerdivision or 8. Panzerdivision ?

New details. It was panzer formation from Wehrkreis VIII. commanded by general Rudolf Koch-Erpach. Maybe it was some formation from LVI Panzer Corps?

Hello Glynwed!
A nice map but the situation depicted seems to be that of February 26th, just as the name of the picture says.
A month before the frontline was still a good deal away from the Striegau - Jauer area.
Best regards
Torsten

Thank you
but for me the most interesting is the frontline from January of 45.
It was similar situation then in February?
Could you tell me what is the structure of PanzerKorps, PanzerGruppe and KorpsGruppe?
What formation included PzGr, PzK and KGr?

Correct spelling is Striegau, not Streigau. GBT

Re: Panzerdivision near Streigau in Niederschlesien 1945 ?
The Soviets captured Striegau 13-14 Feb 45. The encircled Germans broke out on 15
Feb. 45. German infantry saw horrendous atrocities committed by the Soviets, and swore not to take any prisoners – against orders by their commander. But Striegau remained in the MLR, sort of half and half Soviet and German. There was heavy fighting Mar 10-15 1945. Most of the fighting was done by the 208th Infantry Div., it was house-to-house combat. The only Panzer Div. listed is the 20th Pz. Div., of the 48th Pz. Korps.
Also, by then, early 1945, the designators Division, Korps, etc., was in name only. Most of the units were under strength, with especially artillery ammunition limited.
