need help 95th Division information
My wife's father was an office in the 95th division and have been working on translating portions of Karl Knoblauch's book "Kampf und Untergangder 95. InfantryDivision" I found references for units with the following designation and would like to know how they would be translated in English. I could not find some of them in TM 30-506
10./I.R.
II. und III,/Artilleriregiment 195 und schwere Feldhaubitze Battery 774
III./Artilleriregiment und Stellungsbatterie 774
A.V.Ko. der Artillerie
Strosstrupp - Sprengtrupp - Duckungstrupp
Oficer-Spähtrtrupps
Battaillon 2 Züge 10./ (missing rest)
I also need help deciphering the writing in his Soldbuch and wondered if this is the right forum for these questions?

Hello,
Of course you can also post the Soldbuch questions here...
As simply translating the Terms is not very ínformative I rather explain what is meant...
10./I.R. - the number is missing.. it means "10.Kompanie/Infanterieregiment" - 10th Company of infantry Regiment..
II. und III,/Artilleriregiment 195 und schwere Feldhaubitze Battery 774 - These are the 2nd and 3rd battalion (Abteilung) of artillery Regiment 195 and the heavy fieldhowitzer battery 774
III./Artilleriregiment und Stellungsbatterie 774 - the same as above - III.Abteilung/Artillerieregiment - and the static battery 774 (most probably the same as above)
A.V.Ko. der Artillerie - Artillerie-Verbindungskommando - artillery Liaison section
Strosstrupp - Sprengtrupp - Duckungstrupp - assault squad - destruction squad (to destroy obstacles, barriers and bunkers) - correct "Deckungstrupp" - the men giving covering fire for the assault
Oficer-Spähtrtrupps - reconnaissance squads - usually lead by an NCO but if a officer lead them it was a Offiziers-Spähtrupp
Battaillon 2 Züge 10./ (missing rest) - not really logcial.. there must be more context etc.. Bataillon is battalion - 2 Züge - means two platoons and 10./ is the same Abbreviation as above for most probably 10th company

Re: need help 95th Division information
Thanks so much for your reply. I could not figure out what a zug was and now it is very clear. I thought it was a train of some kind lol.
I am still confused about the 10./ infantry regiment. I have included an attachment from his soldbach which also is confusing and has 10./ J.R. 279. what's with the J.R.?

Hello,
That is Infanterieregiment 279 which is element of the 95.Infanteriedivision.

Re: need help 95th Division information
thanks for the info. Do companies exist without being attached to a battalion?

Re: need help 95th Division information
I think I figured out what it meant. I discovered the Lexicon site and under the discription of Infantry Battalions was listed as III Battalion - 9th - 11th company so I assume that was what the reference to 10./IR 279 was. It was the 10th company of the III Battalion of the 279 Infantry Regiment. Does this make sense?
Re: need help 95th Division information
Yes, it was in the III Battalion, but are you sure it had 9th - 11th company? It should be 9th-12th.
Have a look here and just count from right to left:
Inf Div 5th Welle
Each battalion had three rifle and one MG company.

Re: need help 95th Division information
I should have clipped the info and now I can't find it but it said III Battalion 9-11 company and 1 M.G. Company that would make the MG company 12.
