What information can be discovered about the rank or anything else other than he's eating. That much I figured out by myself. Any help will be appreciated

Hello,

It is not the best Quality but it seems like the rank Leutnant with a bright Color of arms most likely white for infantry.

Thanks Christoph. The photo was a picture of my wife's father who joined the army in 1920 and was killed in 1942. I have several photos and thought this might be one from the time he was an enlisted man. if he was a Lieutenant that would date the photo between 1.8.1940 and 1.9.1941. I will post more later.

Another photo. He is on the right. Is there any significance in the light colored jacket? What kind of rifle is it and there appears to be something on the lower stock? Possible time the photo was taken and rank of the man on the left. thanks

Schwarzermai did ask about the rank, Uwe, not about his official position
Source: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hauptfeldwebel
In the case of Schwarzermai the soldier on the left holds clearly the rank insignia of a "Stabsfeldwebel" (https://tinyurl.com/nnesppx)

Referring to the "something on the lower stock":
Its just one end of the gun sling which is pulled through a recess on the carbine Mauser 98K:

What kind of rifle is it
Not 100% sure as not many features are visible, but I would say on the left we have Czech vz.24
On the right most probably K98, although bolt handle recess is not there, perhaps it's covered?

Hello,

Explanation for Kriemhild - as history1 pointed out in his usually friendly and constructive manner - his RANK is Stabsfeldwebel... his appointment (Dienststellung) is Hauptfeldwebel - as Uwe pointed out. Officially he was also "called" Hauptfeldwebel by the soldiers of the company.

@history1 - as I said before I do not appreciate your habbits here on the forum. The smilie was absolutely unnecessary and a unappreciated offense against the very valuable member Uwe.
Just an example of using Emoticons "History1 you are a knowledgeable and precious member of this Forum."
"Wikipedia is a great source of Information about WW2 an the Wehrmacht"

/Christoph
