I have attached the image from the first page of the Soldbuch. I can not figure out the rank for the 1.10.1939 entry. On the unit I got the 279 I.F. but can not red the first part. What does the Nr.8 mean. Any help will be appreicated

Below the serial number of the Soldbuch (Nr.3) you have rank - Feldwebel
1.10.1939 rank was - Stabsfeldwebel

Soldbuch was issued by Stab I.R.279
Nr.8 would be number of soldier's ID tag

Hey, probably this could help:
xxx.soldbuchweb.com/sbpg02.htm

You should substitute the "xxx" by "www" and you will get the information you need.

Otherwise the ranks are Leutant d.R. (2nd lt of reserves) and Oberleutnant d.R. (1st Lt reserves). And "Stab" means staff unit of the regiment.
