Hi,

Why Germany had their own general staff in a foreign army?

Was it because they mistrust their "allies"? Was it because they wanted to help theim in strategic and operative questions?

as i was searching I found this on internet. It was saying, cause germany wanted to help them in oprative and strategic questions.
any other suggestions ore something to proove this?

This is just the German liaison staff with the Rumanian 3rd Army. Used to facilitate communications and cooperation between the different countries' forces.

sure that it is just a Verbindungsoffizer?

never heard to have a whole stab with that many officers.

The DHM in Rumanien had been advising the Romanian Army for over two years by this time.

3rd Army had come up from Romania in mid 1942 and was the Romanian formation most influenced and equipped by the Germans. The officers concerned are presumably members of the DHM who had been deployed with it.

Marshall Antonescu was due to take command of an Army Group consisting of 3rd and 4th Romanian Armies and the German 6th Army and some of his German staff had already been designated. Some of the named officers may be from that source.

This particular document is dated 6 December 1942, when the Germans were trying to bolster 3rd Army after its defeat on the Don over 19-25 November. The officers shown might have been in effective command of the Romanian formations named.

Cheers,

Sid.

hello thx for you conclusions.

but i read also about "deutscher Generalstab" at an italian army as well.

further more: there are documents clearly making difference between Verbindungsoffizier and deutscher Generalstab at a foreign army.

cheers

After the Romanian 3rd Army was overrun by the Soviets in operation Uranus on 19 November 1942, Oberst Walter Wenck, chief of staff of the LVII Pz.K., was made acting commander of the Army on 26 November 1942. Presumably this is the staff that he used.

All Germany's European allies (including the Italians) had German Army liaison staffs with their armies, sometimes down to the divisional level.

The degree of German penetration depended on political factors. The Romanians were reportedly the most receptive to a German presence.
