What did the early-war Waffen-SS get paid?

One thing that distinguished the Waffen-SS and its immediate predecessors early in the war was that almost all were already full time government uniformed employees in peacetime.

By contrast, the vast majority of the German Army consisted of reservists and conscripts.

Reservists and conscripts got little more than subsistence pay while in service.

However, what did the early Waffen-SS men get paid? Did they continue to receive their peacetime rate of pay like Army regulars, or did they receive little more than subsistence pay like Army reservists and conscripts?

Cheers,

Sid.
