10th and 14th Armee strength - Italy April 1945
Forum-members,
I am researching the German forces facing the Allies' April 1945 offensive (Operation Grapeshot) and trying to find out the strength (particularly infantry and AFVs) for the divisions involved.
I have an order of battle and have also identifed the supporting units (e.g. StuG; Panzer Jager and Werfers) but but would like to have some idea of what the average German company or battalion strength was at that stage of the war.
Does anyone have this information, or know where I can find it?
Thanks,
Martin

Hi Martin,
you'll find the second part of the weekly strength report of the 10th Army from 26 March 1945 attached (TNA, DEFE 3/601, pp. 67-71). There is certainly more to be found in the remaining ULTRA decrypts of the so-called "DEFE Series", all available free of charge on UK National Archive's website. This is the link to the folder this particular document came from:
http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.u ... r/C1910498
(Just follow the steps from "add to basket" onward; for other folders, use the search function).
Hope this helps a bit,
G.

Re: 10th and 14th Armee strength - Italy April 1945 - Panzers
Thanks again Cristoph.
One more question, do you have the tank (especially PzIV) and STuG strengths for the 2 armies at or before this date?
I have seen a Panzerlage for Army Group South-West which suggests the Panzer IV strength was about 130 in January 1945. This seems to be about 2 to 3 panzer battalions so I was trying to work out which they were other than II/26th Panzer Regiment.
Thanks, Martin

Thanks again Cristoph,
All were part of the 14th Armee, non from the 10th.
