SS-Pz.Gren.AuE-Btl. 12 (April 45)
Does anyone know where this Btl. was stationed in April 1945? Partisan intelligence spotted this unit or some of its members in Škofja Loka (Laak an der Zaier) in late April 1945, but even they weren't sure about positive ID.

Hello Klemen,
The battalion fought on the German western front during April 1945. You can find further information on this thread of the Forum der Wehrmacht.
Best regards

That's interesting. I used to converse with the son of a 12th SS soldier. His Dad was wounded in Normandy, then he was in Berlin for recovery. Then he said that he fought partisans in Yugoslavia. That could tie in with this comment. Now I'd never heard of 12th SS doing that but who knows. Unfortunately I cannot ask him more as I lost touch.

Yeah, that's interesting. There were some other reports (already in 1944) regarding Hitlerjugend Div. being present in Slovenia, but they were usually mis-ID-ed local HJ members, used as scouts/couriers. But there are also some reports, which can't be explained with local HJ. These other reports (along side LSSAH troops) are usually connected with Brežice (Rann) area, where 18. SS-Div. Horst Wessel was forming. Perhaps these men from both Div. were sent here to form a new Div.ptimms wrote:That's interesting. I used to converse with the son of a 12th SS soldier.
