Can anything be determined from the Erkennungsmarke -213-2.E.SS.Pi.E.R. ?
Is an Erkennungsmarke the equivalent of a modern dog tag? What information does it contain.
I'm trying to do some biographical research on my grandfather and received the above number from the German War Graves Commission.
Thanks.

Is there any way to determine when he entered service based on any of this information?
