T-34 destroyed from five meters by 10,5 cm howitzer?

In book "Als der Osten brannte" by Henning Stühring i found this fragment.
Ok, leichte Feldhaubitze may be 10,5 cm leFH 18 but what about burst wave and muzzle burst fuze? Or it could dent drivers hatch and detonate inside? Then I have a question about case hardness of german HE shell.

Can someone explain or may be I made incorrect translation?

Hello!

It says the shell exploded on the drivers hatch, bent the hatch inward and detonated the T-34's ammo storage.
