Could anyone help to identify 5./Krftf.-Abt./501

Hello,

For some research, I'm trying to find what this abbreviation is : 5/krftf-abt/501.
I believe it means 5./ Kraftfahr-Abteilung 501 or in english : 5th company of the 501st transport batallion.
Am I right ?

And if so, could anyone please help me to find what this unit was ? I've already tried, but alas unsuccessfully.

Thank you for your help,
Guillaume

Thank you Stewy for your quick reply. It could indeed be the unit I'm looking for.
But is Kraftwagen-Transport-Abteilung, the same unit than "krftf-abt", which could rather be "Kraftfahr-Abteilung" ? Just asking, as I don't know the answer !
However, I couldn't find any 501st Kraftfahr-Abteilung, so if there is one 501st Kraftwagen-Transport-Abteilung, could really the one I'm lookng for.

Kraftfahr-Abteilung (some of them earlier in the war also called Nachschub-Kolonne-Abteilung) is not the same unit as Kraftwagen-Transport-Abteilung.

Is the spelling correct? What the source? Any additional information, like dates, places, etc. could be helpful.

Hello,

I've returned to my sources and got some precisions.
Indeed, it's 5.Kompanie/kraftfahr-Abteilung 501 and the ID of the soldier i'm looking for was 731-3/Kf.Ers.Abt.17.

Alas, I have no date (except that he left this unit just before august 1943) and no place, except that he was on the eastern front.

A lot of these type of units are really difficult to track their exact whereabouts. Stewy

Indeed !
As I've seen browsing the net for them, many have changed many times through the war.

My other problem is that I have the mention of supposedly two different units (5.Kompanie/kraftfahr-Abteilung 501 and 3/Kf.Ers.Abt.17). How should I consider this ?

If you have Soldbuch, wehrpass or docs, any paperwork please post it. It would help members here assist you no end. I've got a lot of driver related paperwork & some units were all over the place especially later on in the war. A real headache. Stewy

Here is what I finally got about this soldier :

ID number : 731-3/Kf.Ers.Abt.17

He was on the 1st of december 1942 : Feld-Werkstätte 522

then on the 12 december 1942 : Kraftwagen-Transport-Regiments-Stab z.b.V. 981

then on the 16th december 1942 : 4. Verfügungs-Reserve-Kompanie/Kraftwagen-Transport-Regiment z.b.V.981

and finally in 1943 (until august) : 5.Kompanie/kraftfahr-Abteilung 501

Here's everything I got... Hope it can help.
