Himmler and the snipers

#1

Post by freiwillige » 12 Nov 2003, 13:08

Hello,

Sometime ago, I have read some info about a reward's program for sniper kills organised by Himmler. The RFSS also, I think, ordered increase the number of snipers in some units.
Someone can send me some info?

Thanks.
Ferran

Before the Scharfschützenabzeichen award system was as follows:
- for 50 kills watch,
- for 100 hunting rifle,
- for 150 kills invaited to go hunting with Himmler.

I hope that this is what were/are looking for.

I know very little of this.

I take it the award system was regarding the W-SS? If not, was it possible for a Werhmacht soldier to hunt with Himmler, and what beast was hunted?

What do the hunting watched/rifles look like?

When was the system instigated?

What is the translation for Scharfschützenabzeichen?

Any answers or links would be very useful.

yes they got special marksmanship lanyards and a badge with it. the badge came in three classes 1st 2nd and 3rd. to get a third class they needed 20 kills (confirmed of course) for second they needed 40 and for the first they needed 60. i got this off of a terrific non political site about german uniforms of ww2. its http://www.angelfire.com/sk2/germanuniforms. i highly reccomend it.

Does anyone have any info, how many snipers were presented to Himmler?

Regards,
Klemen
