Oberstleutnant VON BOELTZIG (Kdr.

Translation from German

Battle group SCHMIDT

The commander
Place an accommodation

24.11.42.

The subordinate order needs to be notified immediately to all officers, to corporals and soldiers.

THE ORDER № 1

Comrades!
Higher command has charged me to supervise over defense of site SUROVIKINO.
You are collected from various parts and connections, but I hope, that you rally in unanimous iron unit, as defenders of NARVIK.
The matter is that we should constrain this site, despite of possible
forthcoming deprivations in the foodstuffs, accommodation and in transferring of a big cold, this site should be withheld.
The keystone to success in this business will be only iron discipline and close interaction in now created battle groups and companies.
Deciding{Solving} is not only a normal accessory to one constant component, but also an exclusive accessory to time battle group.

I appoint commanders of groups with full authority of commanders of batallions
On east site: senior lieutenant KAMENBERG
On northern site: captain SCHTILLER
On a western site: captain KARGER
On a southeast site: major GEDEMAN
On a southwest site /KALINOVSKIJ/captain SCHONE
The number of companies in groups is represented by commanders of sites. Commanders of groups are responsible for integral use of these groups.

Comrades!
You are collected from different service arms to participate in especially heavy forms struggle, as infantry.
Owing to what I command: to bring to notice all soldiers the following alarms:
Alarm of 1 step:
Posts at the heavy weapon amplify, as observation posts; the defensive position is occupied with half of staff
Alarm of 2 steps:
All places are occupied completely, Commanders on battle posts.

Besides at night and in a fog posts are exposed so that was not overflow of district.
Especially at night or in a fog it is necessary to restore and keep in contact between next sites by means of patrols.
Northern and east sites are responsible for communication with ahead taking place position of captain RAEIBSCHTEIN.
East site is responsible for communication with a southeast site.
The western site is responsible for communication with southwest and northern sites.
Communication should be supported constantly from both parties, so to not give opportunities to the opponent to come nearer unnoticed.

For investigation answer:
Southeast site on TCHUDIN, stations SVIRIDOVSKY,
DMITRIEVKA and further BOL.OSINOVKA.
East site on TCHUDIN, station DMITRIEVKA and
GIRKOV /especially to pay attention to a valley of the river CHIR/
Put forward position «RAEIBSCHTEIN» on GIRKOV, on the North and on LUKICHEV.
Western site on OSINOVSKIJ
Southwest site /KALINOVSKIJ/on OSINOVSKIJ and
CHUVILEVSKIJ a/valley river CHIR/, and as in intermediate space.
At last:
Southwest and southeast sites in raised district to the south river CHIR.

Comrades! Approach will be definitely, can be at night.
Remember, that the infantryman makes way for the tank, is hidden and, having passed the tank, conducts struggle against an infantry.
The tank at night blind, goes shoots blindly and if will break, should be destroyed with rear.

Comrades! For us now either a victory or death.
Therefore to a victory!

Has translated
Guards the lieutenant /KOVALL/
