Thanks to Larry D. (again :) ) and Jakub!!!

I was probably wrong with TG3 on Koeniggratz airfield.

Back to the topic....in one old czech book I found out two pictures of retreating German units via Ceska Trebova town. It´s probably units of 31.SS-FrwGrD and 45.VGD, XVII.AK 17.Armee retreating from Upper Silesia through Nachod to Hradec Kralove.

On the first pic there is an JgPz 38 with SS and Herr soldiers on it. It´s unknown if the JgPz 38 is from 31.SS or 45.VGD. Both units hade that vehicles in its disposal.

On second pic there is an SS soldier in rank Sturmann and non officers belt, but with officer cap and trousers. Probably an officer after changed clothing?

Hello!
Does anybody have an information about 20. SS division (est. N. 1) in the time period from March 15 to the end of the March 1945? I´m searching for information about fights near Polish villages Deutsch Rasselwitz (Raclawice Slaskie), Neustadt (Prudnik) and Czech Hotzenplotz (Osoblaha), Zottig (Sádek), Stubendorf (Studnice), Weissak (Vysoká) etc.

Look at:

Georg Günther: Letzter Lorbeer. Geschichte der Kämpfe in Oberschlesien von Januar bis Mai 1945. Heimatverlag Augsburg, 5. Auflage, 1982.

Die Letzte Schlacht. Der Einsatz der 20. (erste estnische) Panzergrenadierdivisionen der Waffen-SS im Frühjahr 1945. In: Der Freiwillige 12/1976.

From site http://wehrmacht.pri.ee/yksused/leegion/leegion.html I know, that during retreat form Oppelnas a part of KorpsGruppe Schlesien (March 16) 20. SS div. was splited in to three columns: 1st - Kampfgruppe Langhorst, 2nd - kampfgruppe leaded by Franz Augsberger and 3rd - unknown to me. From other source I have known, that some group of Estonian soldiers joined (March 19) near Deutsch Rasselwitz 344. division (with kampfgruppe 18. SS div.) and broke through Russian surrounding in directin to Hotzenplotz. Is it possible, that this group of Estonian soldiers was that 3rd group?

I do not know if this has already been mentioned, but the W-SS had quite extensive training installations etc in Bohemia and Moravia, which also contributed personnell to many units of the more scratch kind during the final phase of the war. Among these were:

SS-Rekrutendepot Debica
Pionierschule der W-SS Hradischko
SS-Pz.Grenadier Schule Prosetschnitz-Kienschlag
SS-Artillerieschule II Beneschau
SS-Wachbataillon Böhmen und Mähren
SS-Wachbataillon 2 "Prag"

cheers

Sorry for dredging but I have just discovered this fascinating and informative thread (thankyou Peeter for linking this thread to the lost german girl thread). In regards to the execution of Hstuf Maitla, I came accross this picture and thought it may be of interest. I have searched the site and not found it already posted, apologies if its a repost. It is said to be of Maitla as a POW shortly before his execution at the hands of communist czech militia.

It certainly looks like him in comparison to his portrait on wiki and also fits the description of Maitla being captured with 4 other estonians.
