I don't really have much information about Pi.Btl.741, and practically nothing from 1941-42, but here's what I've got:

Geman Cross in Gold winners:
Deparade, Major Ernst - Kdr. Pi.Btl.741 on 28.11.1942
Karger, Ofw. Hermann - 3./He.Pi.Btl.741(mot.) on 11.09.1944
Schabel, Oblt.d.R. Max - 1./He.Pi.Btl.741(t.mot.) on 10.08.1944

Ehrenblattspange:
Hoffmann, Hptm. Paul – Kdr. He.Pi.Btl.741 (mot.) on 17.01.1945

Names of some of the officers in the battalion who were killed:
Dietze, Lt.d.R. Wilhelm, born 22.04.1915, died 07.10.1942 as a results of wounds
Kimmich, Oblt.d.R. Helmut, born 17.04.1914, killed 22.01.1943 near Voroshilovgrad
Meyer, Major Fritz, born 06.12.1906, killed 13.04.1944 near Vadul lui Voda
Meyer, Oblt.d.R. Lothar, born 19.07.1915, killed 20.08.1943 east of Peremoga
Philippsen, Lt.d.R. Erich, born 07.12.1906, died 02.04.1942 as a results of wounds
Schamburger, Lt.d.R. Ludwig, born 26.06.1915, killed 08.03.1944 near Varushino

Not much, but hopefully of some use.

Best wishes,
Jason

I've been compiling information about pioneer battalions in preparation for a future book about them, so I was easily able to lay my hands on that information. The names of the DKiG were obtained from the Scheibert book, the Ehrenblattspange name from another book by Scheibert and the names of the killed officers were found on an alphabetical list of officer casualties available at NARA in Washington D.C. I am sure there would be more names of dead officers from Pi.Btl.741 because my database is far from complete.

You may already have the following information, but I will post it here anyway (Source: http://www.lexikon-der-wehrmacht.de/Gli ... oniere.htm)
Pionier-Bataillon 741
Feldpostnummern:
Stab 40276
1. Kompanie - 41423
2. Kompanie - 42677
3. Kompanie - 43930
4. Kompanie - unbekannt
Kolonne - 44568 gestr. Aug/44

Armee in Ungarn eingesetzt. .
Die Ersatzgestellung kam vom Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 68 in Küstrin, Wehrkreis III.
Best wishes,
Jason

Thanks, Jason!!!

That helped a lot. :D

I want to reconstruct the way of duty of my grandfather.

He served with this batallion in this time, but 13.06.1942 he get heavenly wounded and transfered to different fieldhospitals
and transfered back to germany.

He returned after 1,5 year back to the eastern front.

Here are the references that I have found in my research, which is not complete. So far it appears the the 741st Pioneer Battlion was limited to road repair and building/repairing bridges and ferries during the early part of Barbarossa. Note the German had planned to capture Ungeny (on the Prut River) during the night of the 22nd June 1941 like they did Skulyany (just north of Ungeny on the Prut River) but the German and Romanians bungled the build up to the crossing and the planned attack was cancelled.

These are the references I have to the 741st Pioneer Battalion so far (all are from the war diary of the 198th Infantry Division)

22 June 1941

The corps decided that the bridge at Ungeny is to be captured by a Romanian battalion with the assistance of 741st Pioneer Battalion.

10 July 1941

1./741st Pioneer Battalion attached to the 198th Infantry Division

14 July 1941

whole of the 741st Pioneer Battalion attach to the 198th Infantry Divison (to help in crossing the Dniester River)

15 July 1941

741st Pioneer Battalion subordinate to the 235th Pioneer Battalion (of the 198th Infantry Division)

19th July 1941

Detached from the 198th Infantry Division

12th August 1941

741st Pioneer Battalion secured the north entrance to Berezovka (II). [The German were worried that the Soviets could threaten Brezovka (II), which was in the German rear area, from the North during the XXX Army Corps drive to the Southern Bug River.]

Found a few references in the XXX Corps records (research not done yet and the text has not been updated to English standard)

At 12:50 the Armee-Oberkommando 11 ordered reconnaissance-in-force along the Işai – Bălţi Road and towards Cornesti-Tg. The reconnaissance-in-force was ordered by the corps as following:

22 June 1941

a) Towards Cornesti-Tg. by the 198. Infanterie-Division supported by elements of the Pionier-Bataillon 741. The pioneer troops, by order of the commander of the Pionier-Regiment Stab 690, were to operate the assault boats used in the operation, which was to capture and hold the road and railway bridge. These element of the pioneer battalion were moved by rail to Ungheni Targ during the afternoon. The boats were to transport the elements of the 198. Infanterie-Division that were to storm the heights to the east of the Pruth River. The Romanian Divizia 14.Infanterie was instructed to provide troops that would move in behind the assault teams and secure the bridge.

22 June 1941

An urgent request was sent to Armee-Oberkommando 11 that more construction assets be assigned to the corps. They for needed for road and trail improvements need for further operations. It was also asked that the 3./Pi.Btl.741, which was located with Armee-Oberkommando 11 headquarters in Piatra Neamt, was immediately sent to the corps.
