No Ukrainian Home Guards were established, though these were present in Estonia, Lithuania and Belarus. There might be some Tartar self-defense formations in Ukrainian Crimea before being transformed into schuma or ost battalions.

Yes there were some home guard units. Originally called as "Ukrainski Kuschi Samo-oborony" (Ukrainian Self-Defence units). Formed from locals and originally under OUN control. Afterwards were either disbanned, integrated into police or transformed into Schuma battalions.

To my understanding, Home Guards weren't self-defense forces. For example, in German-occupied Belarus, The Belarusian Home Guards refered to the BKA, while the Belarusian Self-Defense refered to the armed peasant irregulars established earlier than BKA.

Were these Home Guards supervised or controlled by German Ordnungspolizei?
