So Paulen was promoted to Legion-Untersturmführer on 24-11-41 and in September 1943 he was Legion-Obersturmführer when he served with SS-Sanitäts-Abteilung 8. Can somebody tell me when he was promoted to Legion-Hauptsturmführer and did he became SS-Hauptsturmführer or not???

Hello Mike,

Paulen’s Führerkarte and other documents contained in Part 5b of John P. Moore’s “Führerliste” show:
Leg.-Ostuf.: 24.11.1941; Leg.-Hstuf.: 21.06.1943. These documents do not show him ever holding the rank of Leg.-Ustuf.
Some additional information:
Entered the Waffen-SS: 24.11.1941
Arzt in der Holländischen Ambulanz der Frw.Leg.”Niederlande”: 04.1942
Arzt in SS-Lazarett Kiew/Abt.IVb/SS-Kav.Div: 09.1942
Kp.Chef 2.San.Kp./Sani.Abt.IVb/8.SS-Kav.Div.: 06.1944

Hello Fred,
Thank you very much. I just thought that Waffen-IDF meant Untersturmführer when he wrote down SS-Stuf.: 24-11-1941, but now I see he meant Obersturmführer. Sorry for reading this wrong.
One remaining question. Did he held the rank Legion-Hauptsturmführer till 1945 or was this changed into SS-Hstuf at some point????
Thanks for the additional info as well...

1) No. We had a member who served in the 34th SS.

2) It's doubtful any Dutchman served in the 8th SS

3) And even if one did, what does it matter?

Well I know for a fact that we had a dutch member on here who served in the Waffen SS then, I thought it might have been that division, but still, no need to take that tone.

If a member has a question that he would like answered, he is permitted to present it here on the forum. Please drop the nasty tone.

Crazy_Ivan, my apologies if my post offended you. There was no tone, and no offense overt and implied, but an honest inquiry.

Crazy_Ivan & George Lepre: Why try to determine if a Dutchman served in the 8th SS or the SS Cavalry Brigade? What is the historical significance? What does it have to do with the structure, demographics or performance of the unit? Why not ask on the forum how many left-handed people served in the division, or people named Kurt?
