Two Cossacks (or are they Caucasians?) photographed somewehere in Adriatisches Küstenland also known as OZAK zone. It included parts of present-day Italian, Slovenian and Croatian territories. Some of Cossacks and their families became settled in the area. Well, not for long... Very good and infomative website on armour in OZAK can be found here: http://www.panzer-ozak.it/newinfo_eng.htm

Hi,
Can somebody identify the collar patch of the sitting rider. What he is wearing in his left side could be crossed lances, but the right side? I cannot amplify the photo on-line.
Thanks
Arto

I play a wargame called "Flames of War" and it wasn't too long ago they developed rules to represent these guys. All these fantastic pics posted here is inspiring me to field them in the game (they have Russian miniatures of them). My fiance's grandfather was a white Russian who, with his father and brother, raised horses for Czar Nicholas near the Kiev area of Ukraine. Her grandfather and his brother escaped to the US during the revolution, but her great grandfather didn't. I don't know if they were Cossacks or not and don't know which Cossack tribe was in the Kiev area, though I think either Don or Kuban.
