Hi Phil !

Information on these 3 regiments is very hard to come by. This is what I have:

Waffen SS Grenadier Regiment 1:
29 Nov 1944 - 24 Mar 1945: Ostubaf. Osvalds Meija
24 Mar 1945 - ? : an unnamed German Staf.

Ostubaf. (not Staf.) Reinholds Veckalniņš was commander of the V Battalion of this Regiment.

Waffen SS Grenadier Regiment 2:
29 Nov 1944 - 31 Mar 1945: Ostubaf. Nikolajs Rusmanis
31 Mar 1945 - May 1945: Staf. (not Ostubaf.) Alberts Fricis Liepiņš

Ostubaf. Jānis Teodors Grosbergs commanded Lettische Freiwilligen Polizei Regiment 2, not Waffen SS Grenadier Regiment 2

Waffen SS Grenadier Regiment 3:
29 Nov 1944 - May 1945: Staf. Teodors Brigge

II Btl.: Hstuf. Sukatnieks

Best regards,

VJK

Hi VJK

I'm sure it's very difficult because theses units are less studied than the 2 divisions.

For Grosbergs I have read somewhere (I don't remember) that after his command of the
2nd Police regiment (september 1944), he has led the Waffen SS Grenadier Regiment 2.

Do you have bio and photo of MEIJA and RUSMANIS
For RUSMANIS I only have his birth date (13/02/1895) and that he fought in Kurland where he
was captured by soviets and executed.

Thanks for all

Hi VJK

I've found again where I read that Voldemārs Malcenieks had commanding the 3 border regiment.
It is in "Hitler's eastern legion: the baltic schutzmannschaft" by Antonio Munoz (ed europabook).

Regards.

Hi Phil!

Malcenieks was in fact a battalion commander in the 3. Borderguard Regiment - from 1921 - 1922 !!
I guess Munoz was out by some 22 years :)

Hi VJK

Thank you very much for all yours informations in this topic and in the second.

I'm searching infos on anothers latvian officers:

1 - even on this forum, Ostubaf Pauls CELLE is given 29 september 1922 for birth date which is an error
(lt-col at 22 years old !!!). Do you have is real birth date and is his first name Pauls or Paulis (i've found the two)

2 - have you infos on Stubaf Voldemars BAUMANIS who was commander of the Versorgung Regiment of the
15th division.

3 - infos on Stubaf Kārlis VALHEIMS who was commander of a Lettische SS Freiwilligen Nachschub Regiment 19
(in the books of Bender on waffen SS divisions).

4 - on the feldgrau forum, I've found the info that a certain Legion-Obersturmbannführer Julijs K. Jaunsnikeris was commander of one of the three ausbildungs latvian regiments. Could you confirm such an info because I've never
heard speaking of this officer (unknown in anothers "google" search).

Thank you

Regards

Phil

Hi VJK

I don't know how to thanks you for all of theses bios and photos.
For Karlis VALHEIMS (born 20/07/1897), he is listing here with Karlis VELMERS (born 28/11/1901):
http://forum.axishistory.com/viewtopic.php?t=117735
So I don't know what to think.

For BAUMANIS, I have found by google a leutnant of this name who was coach of the latvian (military?) basket
team in the 30's and participe at the olympics games in Berlin in 1936. I don't remember the site but we can see his
"olympic ausweis" and the birth date is the same so I think we can add this to his bio.
Have you a photo of him.

Allways in my searchs, do you know the names of the bataillons commanders of the latvian ausbildung und
ersatz brigade 15 (commander Staf Bruno BREDOW). I think Stubaf RUBENIS was one of them.
It must be composed by two ausbildungs bataillons and an ersatz bataillon.

Thak you for all.
Regards

Phil.
