Some Estonian SS-officers

Hello all,

I'm trying to find some more info on the following Estonian SS-officers. They all served within the Sipo and SD in Estonia and this is what I've on them.

Manivald-Vilh. Randla.
Born on 15-11-1907 ??
Waffen-Hauptsturmführer der SS.
In 1944 he was commander from 1. Estnische Sicherheitspolizei-Bataillon der SD.
In March 1944 he headed subdepartement B I A with department I A(personel)from Group B within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.
After WW-2 he fled to Canada.
Died on 5-9-1979 in Toronto/Ontario.

Tonis Rouk.
Waffen-Untersturmführer der SS.
In March 1944 he was Referent from subreferentur B V D with referentur V D(criminal technical activities)from the department V(criminal police)with the
Group B within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.

Paul Kompus.
Waffen-Untersturmführer der SS.
He was Referent from subdepartement B I B with department I B from Group B within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.

Eduard Kongas.
Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS.
He was Referent from subdepartement B I Org with department I Org.(organisation)with Group B witin the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.

Rudolf Niineste.
Waffen-Untersturmführer der SS.
He was head of economic affairs in Estonia with referentur II A(Housekeeping and accounting, salaries, supplies)from department II with Group B within
the Staff from the KdS in Estlonia.
He also had the same position with referentur II B(houesekeeping issues, prisoners’ issues, legal advice)from department II with Group B.

Gottfrid Semrau.
Waffen-Untersturmführer der SS.
He was Referent from subreferentur A III D with referentur III D(economic affairs)from department III(Lebensgebiete)with Group A within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.


Riho Sammalkivi.
Waffen-Untersturmführer der SS.
He was Referent from subreferentur B V C with referentur V C(crime detection and surveillance)from department V(criminal police)with Group B
within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.
After WW-2 he was interrogated by the Russians.

Ervin Viks.
Born in 1897 in Tartu.
He was from 29-10-1941 till ?? head of the political police within the Tallinn-Harju Prefecture.
Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS.
He was head of subdepartment B IV with department IV(enemy and resistance)from Group B within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.
In 1950 he fled to Australia.
In Januari 196 he stood trial by absence(the Australians refused to extradite him)before a court in Tartu.
He was accused of participating in the killings on around 12.000 civilians in the Tartu-concentrationcamp.
He was found guilty and sentenced to death.
Died in 1983 in Sydney.

Ernst Hansar.
Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS.
He was head of subdepartment B V with department V(criminal police)from Group B within the Staff from the KdS in Estonia.


Arnold Viiding.
Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS.
He was commander from the Security Police School within the Staff from the
KdS in Estonia.


Whoever has some more info on these men, everything is welcome.

No, I didn't because I didn't know this site was there.

But I just visited it and I tried to find one name but there's not much to be found and it's all in Estonian language.....

On the picture - Viiding with wife right after marriage 02.Sept. 1944. In Estonia.
Arnold Viiding was born 19. March 1911 in Valga South-Estonia and died 19. Oct. 2006 in Sydney Australia.
Education:
1932 – Estonian Police School
1940 – University of Tartu jurisprudence
From 1932 police officer in Tallinn
Arnold Viiding was a well known sportsman in 1930-es. He wins a shot putting gold medal in Torino – 1933 Europeans Championship. In Berlin Olympic Games 1936 Viiding was 8-th.
In world standings his positions were:
1932 – 9. (15.67)
1933 – 4. (15.92)
1934 – 10. (15.59)
1935 – 4. (16.06)
1936 – 5. (16.06)
1937 – 7. (15.80)

Kongas Eduard - 26.Aug.1903 - 20.Aug.1944
Was officer of Estonian Army, captain. Many years he serves as commander of the “Company of Searchlight” in the Pioneer Battalion of Auto-Tank Regiment.

SAMMALKIVI, Riho was born 1899 in Narva
1936 was an assistant commissar of Criminal Police of Tallinn and Harju County.
Arrested 15.01.1946 and convicted – 10+5 (10 years prison + 5 years hard labor) in Siberia.

Ernst Oskar Hansar was born 5. May 1895 in Jõhvi, Estonia.
Was an assistant commissar of criminal police in Narva and from 10.10.1934 commissar of criminal police in Petseri.
1920-22 he works for Estonian Political Police.
Arrested in 25.04.1947 and convicted – 15 years in Siberia.

Manivald Vilhelm Randla was born in 15.Nov.1907 and died in 5. Sept.1979 in Toronto Canada. He was buried to the cemetery of Mt. Pleasant in Toronto.
1928 he was graduated Estonian Military School in Tallinn and after he serves Estonian Army as officer in the Single „Scouts” Battalion.
1937 – assistant commander of the classes of riflery in Estonian Military School.
1940 promoted to captain
1941 together with entire Estonian Army transferred to the Red Army 22nd Territorial Corps. After beginning of the Soviet-German war, he went over to the German side. Back in Estonia he commanded one Estonian Self-defense unit in the Harju County.
1942 he was commander of the 3. kompanie Schutzmannschaft Front Bataillon nr. 29. Front service on the Leningrad front (Ligovo – Uritski area).

I have in my files a name Richard Friedrich Niineste Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS (28.July1907-23.Jun.1944) Referenturs: III A (Accounts and Finances) department III with Group B.
He was an officer of Estonian Army, lieutenant.
At the time of the takeover by Russians, he was incorporated to the Red Army 22nd Territorial Corps. In the summer battles 1941 he went over to the Germans. He was in the German POW camp of Stablack (near Königsberg). Released in Feb.-Apr.1942 and brought back to Estonia.

Thanks for the info on Randla, that's much appreciated.

Concerning Niineste, could be the same men for sure. You must remember that I got my info from the mentioned document/website and it's possible that they made a typing-error over there.....

There are too may similarities between your Niineste and mine so I really think they're one and the same...

Hi, Mike,

What's the source of all those names you have mentioned?

Do you have any information about a man called Ilmar Tidriksaar? He was also a Estonian officer and worker for the Estonian SP.
