Hello VJK,

A question that you maybe can answer.
When was the 15. SS-Artillery-Regiment called the Waffen-Artillerie-Regiment der SS 15(another name was Lettisches Artillerie-Regiment 2)??

Because in 1943 I have this name found:
15. Waffen-Artillerie-Bataillon der SS.

What I mean to say is, how could Berzins be commander from an Abteilung that wasn't there yet??? Or was this Artillerie-Bataillon in July 1943 already called a Regiment???

Greetings,
Mike

The artillery regiment for what became the 15. Latvian Division was initially formed as SS-Artillerie-Regiment (Lett.Legion) and then went through numerous name changes:

summer 1943 : SS-Freiw.-Art.-Rgt. 15 (lett.Art.Rgt. Nr. 1)
22 January 1944 : SS-Freiw.-Art.-Rgt. 15 (lett.Art.-Rgt. Nr.1)
16 May 1943 : renumbered to number 2 as the 19. SS-Division became the
senior regiment and it's artillery regiment became lett.Art.-Rgt. Nr. 1.

Finally a new artillery regiment, Waffen-Artillerie-Regiment der SS 15 (lettisches Artillerie-Regiment Nr. 2) was formed for the division in the winter of 1944/45 with new field post numbers.

Hello Radevich,

What you say might be correct but I honestly can't tell you.
I wrote down the info that I have on these men and I don't have any further info on them....

So yes, maybe they held the rank you're telling us here....

Greetings,
Mike
