Norwegian students in the SS

Post by Zeydlitz » 24 Aug 2008, 12:34

Hello

My father recently discovered some pictures taken by my grand-uncle at the SS Sennheim training camp. They appearently show everyday life at Sennheim, but the bakcground is a bit more dramatic. I'm not sure this is the right place for this topic though.

My grand-uncle was arrested at Oslo University november 30th 1943 together with several hundred other students. The nazi authorities considered the university to be a resistance movement "hotspot", and wanted to show they could turn anti-nazis into nazis and SS soldiers. He was then in the first group of 291 students sent to Sennheim for ideological training. Here, the SS tried to make "good nazis" of them through the means of both stick (threats of executions) and carrot (promises of continued university studies). None of the students were successfully "converted", and when allied forces closed in on Sennheim the camp was evacuated, and my grand-uncle eventually ended up in KZ Buchenwald. Though being in a KZ, they got special treatment in the positive sense. They got more and better food than the other prisoners and were excempted from physical labour.

If anyone can give me more information on the norwegian students at Sennheim and, particularly, more information on people in the pictures, it would be most appreciated!

And now, some pictures :)

Hi

The oberführer in the third picture could be SS Oberführer Rudolf JACOBSEN who had been at the head of this training camp before being chief of the germanic recruitment and education at the SS HA. I have a poor picture of him as Stubaf when commanding a battalion of the Nordland regiment and I know he was from relatively little height. Your picture show his height. So if my identification is good, it's the first pic I've seen of him with oberführer rank.

Hi!

The Oberführer in the picture showing a group of german NCOs and officers in a barrack is Ernst FICK. He was the leader of the ideological education at Sennheim. His SS-PA contains information on Sennheim and his appointment to this job.

A lot of the pictures states Obersturmbannführer WILDE, that is not correct he was only an Obersturmführer.

Hello!
Was Ernst Fick related to Jakob Fick?

Hi

Here a pic of later Brigadeführer Ernst FICK. Even if we don't know the height of the volunteer near him I think Ernst FICK was relatively tall.

Hello all!

ZEYDLIDZ, if you see this message could you please contact me? e-mail: [email protected]. My grandfather was arrested along with your uncle, and I'm currently writing a book (in Norwegian) about their conditons in Sennheim. I would like to talk to you about your pictures etc. I didn't find any e-mail on your profile, so I hope you see this!

Regards.
