Hi Neil,
An MP is a "Message Personnel" i.e. a Personal Message, you can send one from the forum, see button PM on the right side of my post.
Your wife is French !
Try to tell her "Daniel te présente ses hommages"

Re: French SS Volunteer
here is that I know about Standarten-OberJunker Jean-Pierre CATTA :
French military in the first "régiment de zouaves" in 1939-1940; prisonner in june 1940.
Enlisted in LVF, he pass to W-SS.
SS-panzergrenadierschule of Kienschlag from end january to beginning april 1945, with more than twenty other french candidates. They join the "division" Charlemagne (in fact 1100 men) the 14th april 45.
that's all I know about him ! maybe Daniel has some more information.

Re: French SS Volunteer
Good luck with your research. Perhaps you would consider sharing the "fruits" of that research on this forum at a later date. If it turns out that this guy was MIA/KIA at the end of the war (quite likely if he was involved in the fighting in Berlin), I have found a number of entries for French volunteers in the Suchdienst pages of old copies of "der Freiwillige" and "Wiking Ruf" if you can get a hold of someone who has a complete set. Also the German Red Cross Suchdienst lists might be worth a look.

Re: French SS Volunteer
The interesting thing is that he was hidden after the war by his brother, we dont know from to when to when but we know where, the family home in Angers. This means of course he did survive and went on to live a long life. If the above is true from Ustuf ( i do not doubt his sources but wonder if he actually fought there or was perhaps somewhere else) then that could make him one of the few survivors from the battle. I will try the Red cross lists although would assume he would not use his real name after the battle if he was avoiding arrest. I am trying to get a complete picture as I can so I can then approach his brother who is still alive but old and not very welcoming in this area. If I can present 90% of the story then it would be a matter of getting confirmation.
Re: French SS Volunteer (Jean Catta)
I didn't know Jean Catta, but I knew his niece very closely. She inherited the house he owned in Burgundy and lived (and perhaps lives still) here. The village was Guerchy in the departement of Yonne. Jean Catta was no longer hidden in the 60's and he became a rather well appreciated painter.
Re: Waffen-SS Foreign Units
I'm looking for more informations, if you have any, about Jean Catta (1913-1985) in the LVF and W-SS.
I only learned in Axis History on 2011, April 12th: "French military in the first "régiment de zouaves" in 1939-1940; prisonner in june 1940. Enlisted in LVF, he pass to W-SS. This man was my uncle. I should like know more about the facts, behind the silence.
