Re: Foreign Volunteers Death Cards thread
Hi Hecht,
very interesting items. Here's their entries in the Volksbund database:
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kroatisch_Minihof
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burgenlandkroaten
Quite interesting that such death cards in Croatian were produced despite the Nazis' pressure on the ethnic minorities inside Greater Germany.
Best regards
Torsten
very interesting items. Here's their entries in the Volksbund database:
Nachname: Satovich
Vorname: Johann
Dienstgrad: Grenadier
Geburtsdatum: 12.10.1926
Geburtsort: Kwalisch-Minihof
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 30.09.1944
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Lagaro
Both must actually have been from Kroatisch-Minihof (= Mjenovo) in the Austrian state Burgenland. There's a small minority of Ethnic Croatians in Burgenland, about 6 % of the population. In some places where croatian refugees settled in early modern times (1500 - 1600) they're actually the local majority. In Kroatisch-Minihof for example 95% of the residents speak Croatian even today.Nachname: Krizmanich
Vorname: Johann
Dienstgrad: Schütze
Geburtsdatum: 22.05.1924
Geburtsort: Minihof
Todes-/Vermisstendatum: 09.05.1944
Todes-/Vermisstenort: Cucuteni nördl. Targul-Frumos

Agree, and there are still people with those names in the village.Heimatschuss wrote:Hi Hecht,[...] Both must actually have been from Kroatisch-Minihof (= Mjenovo) in the Austrian state Burgenland.
BTW, there´s no need to call Ivan "Ivana" what´s a common first name for women.
It seems that Krizmanich Ivan fought in the 2nd Battle of Târgu Frumos:

Re: Foreign Volunteers Death Cards thread
Here a deathcard of a Flemisch volunteer:
Oberschütze Abspoel Jan
22.12.1923 - Antwerpen
25.08.1942 - oostelijk van Alexandrowka (RUS)
2./SS Freiw. Leg. "Flandern"

Any information about Flemisch in German service (Waffen SS, OT, NSKK, Kriegsmarine, DRK, ...) during WWII is welcome.

The name is Ivan (same as mine; German variant: Johann). "Ivana" in this context means "of Ivan" ("in memory of Ivan Krizmanich", "think in your prayers of Ivan Hutter"). Out of such a context, Ivana is a female variant of Ivan.Hecht wrote:Ivana Hutter
Nice topic!
Cheers,
Ivan
Re: Foreign Volunteers Death Cards thread
Maybe not really to post here because he's not a Flemisch Waffen SS volunteer.
He is member of the 1e Standaard der Germaansche SS in Vlaanderen. (1 Standarte Germanische SS Flandern).
He is murdered by the resistance. But what my question is what would mean the rank ?FK-Sturmmann? because they normally just follow the SS Ranks and i find no FK in any of them?
FK-Sturmmann Engelrest Cyriel
10.02.1901 - Oedelem
29.06.1944 - Beernem
Excecutive member of DeVlag
and member 1e Standaard der Germaansche SS in Vlaanderen.

But with
it´s clear that the next soldier is also Ivan and not Ivana.BTW, there´s no need to call Ivan "Ivana" what´s a common first name for women
Re: Foreign Volunteers Death Cards thread
As far as I know, majority of foreign volunteers were not issued Deathcards. The croats in this case lived in Austria, and were considered ethnic Reich citizens. Perhaps some Germanic SS would get them, but thats about it.
