Has nobody nothing on following Flamish (?) officers that served with the LSSAH:
SS-Obersturmführer Simon de Groot
SS-Obersturmführer Emiel Richard de Groof
SS-Untersturmführer Ludwig Ooms

Isn't this unit well documentated?[/i]

Some Parmesans (Parma people.. north Italy ) they have served as mechanician of captured Italian vehicles after 8 september 1943. The LSSAH it fight in Parma just the 8 and 9 September of 1943 . (My personal info.)

From Wikipedia ..

The Leibstandarte was given the task of guarding several vital road and rail junctions in the area of Trento-Verona. After several weeks operating in this area, the division was moved to the Parma-Reggio area. During this period, the Leibstandarte was involved in several skirmishes with partisans. With the Italian collapse of 8 September 1943, the division was ordered to begin disarming nearby Italian units. This went smoothly, with the exception of a brief skirmish with Italian troops stationed in Parma on 9 September.

William Celliers was actually a South African, who was sent to South West Africa (Namibia) in 1940 as there was a fear at the time about the number of Germans there (or more specifically what they might do in support of the Nazi War effort).
Despite having served as a HIWI in the LAH (along with this James Conan chap), he does not appear to have suffered any punishment after the war and was repatriated to South West Africa via the Ukrainian port of Odessa. He resumed his career as a policeman and died in Namibia in 1990.
This information was provided by a family member and supplements the information already published in the book "Gefährten unserer Jugend. Die Flak-Abteilung der Leibstandarte" by Hugo Ullerich (and others). For anyone interested who does not have a copy of this book, second hand copies can be had at Amazon.de.

Ciao Daniele, ti sarei grato se potessi mandarmi indicazioni di dove reperire queste informazioni a livello bibliografico. Se fosse possibile parlare con qualcuno di loro sarebbe fantastico! nicolaguerra.phd@gmail.com

daniele wrote:Hi guys, just confirming what Ostuf Charlemagne posted:

There were about 50 Italians that asked to continue to fight with the 1.SS-Pz.Div `LAH`, after the italian change of side on 8 September 1943, when the Division stationed in North Italy. They fought on the Eastern front during the winter of 1943-1944.
In March 1944, the surviving italian `LAH` volunteers were sent to the Berlin Lichterfelde barracks where the 1.SS-Pz-Grenadier Ausbildungs und Ersatz Bataillon was stationed. In Berlin, the Italians were placed under command of SS-Oberscharfuhrer Willy Detering and he received the order to accompany them to Caldiero near Verona where the Commandostab of the Italian Volunteer Legion was located.

Hi Nicola,

I think there would be no chance for you since this forum is very discreet on such things and it's very unlikely that someone will ever give you personal details or actual adress of any italian SS veteran since the things there are still too hot if you know what I mean.

Hi TK, while I agree with you that it's neither polite nor sensible to give our a friend's personal details or address to someone who asks for it on an internet forum, I don't know what you mean that things are still "hot."

Perhaps the most famous 29th SS veteran, Pio Filippani-Ronconi certainly managed an academic career without mishap, although his writing for the Corriere della sera back in 2000-01 did prompt some controversy. And certainly Sergio Corbatti and Marco Nava interviewed veterans of the 29th SS (there's two dozen of them listed in the index of their book Sentire, Pensare, Volere) without any Garibaldi partisans knocking them off.

I don't think it's a matter of things being "hot" so much as the veterans being "old" - there's not a lot of them left, and few of the surviving veterans have their full mental faculties.
