Does anyone have data on who was in charge in Amsterdam during 40-43? Where was the headquarters situated, who ran it, any pictures and stories?

Hi Birgitte, The only "SS" quarter I remember from that time was the ''Recruiting office", first stationed in Hotel van Gelder at the Damrak, and later on the Dam square on the corner of the Nieuwendijk. There also was a "SD"(sicherheitdienst) outfit in the Euterpe straat in Amsterdam south; but no such thing as an SS H.Q. (to my knowledge) That probably would have been in the Hague (Den Haag), where Ober Gruppen Führer Rauter, the "Höhere SS und Polizei führer" for Holland had his staff and office. What specifically are you looking for ? Perhaps i can find out for you. Regards. HN

Oooh, that would be great! I am helping an acquaintance find out about some people who presumably worked at this so-called HQ in Amsterdam -- but they know extremely little.

1. It was in one of the finest residences in Amsterdam,
2. It was allgemeine SS -- for which reason I'm thinking Gestapo, really.

The people in question were most likely collaborating with the underground to some extent, and were eventually sent "to a camp".

Got to love getting that much to work with!

3.SS-Standaard regt.hq was in Koningslaan 12 in Amsterdam. It was part of Germanic SS in Netherlands.I don't know it's commander but there's a picture of him in Andrew Mollo's -Uniforms of the ss.volume 2 in page 13.

Hope this helps.

Hi Juha. Wow, you beat me to it. When a qustion is asked about the SS, for me just the Waffen SS and possibly tjhe S.D. comes to mind. The asphalt soldiers, Germanische SS, or their early Dutch counter-part. de "Nederlandsche SS" . Did not come to mind till after I Posted. The address in the Koningslaan was indeed a "well to do neighbourhood".
Ironically a well organized resistance group occupied a similar mansion only a few houses away. Vr.Gr. HN.

Oh, on another note -- these Nederlandscher SS, were their uniforms equivalent to their German counterparts, or were they more "SA" like?

Their uniforms were based on the black "W.A. (weer afdeeling) "uniforms; originally it was called "de Mussert garde" (Mussert was the Dutch Nat.Soc. leader.) Later they emulated the b lack uniform of the Algemeine SS (black and silver). Just from memory. Timo correct me if I am wrong. HN

Birgitte, sorry no scanner  .The HSSUPF Rauter issued in July -40 uniforms whitch are belived to be German manufactured. After that uniforms were propably made in Holland. They were based to algemaine-ss uniforms but had local manufacture techniques. And they used "wolfangel" in their caps etc

The commander of 3rd SS-standaard holds the rank of SS-Opperstormleider and is propably veteran of eastern front, because he wears IR 2 class and infantry assault badge.

Regards Juha.

This is definitely something to work with :) Can you give me a description of his face? I have notes here about two men -- one redhaired, one tall and dark and intimidating. It'd be interesting to confirm whether he was one of them!
