Hi,

Hitler told to General Munoz that Spanish soldiers were great fighters. He said that German soldiers always longing to fight with their's Spanish comrades. He also think that Spanish were the strongest people among Latins.
BTW, like other Germans, Hitler didn't like the behaviour of the Spanish soldiers because they were easy-going people (not rigid like Prussians) and too friendly to Russian civilians.

Best Regards

Bless the people who like help others

Hi,

Yes that is the most common opinion in Spain. That they fought extremely well against overwhelming odds and that they had a frindly manner with the civilian population.

Best regards

Antonio

i have been researching the unit for about (2) years developing information and copies of data. Every indication I have found was that the individual fighter was tenacious and fought against odds that would have overwhelmed most others. In every village in Russia that they were stationed they treated the civilians with civility and charity. It would seem that the villagers as a result reciprocted the treatment. homes, food, medical supplies were shared equally. Based, on my findings to date it would seem that the Spanish Blue Division actually was chivelrous in an age that no longer recognized chivilary. When attaked or attacking they fought with elan and with zeal. To the chagrin of the germans they even cared for enemy wounded when practical. Perhaps if the germans had followed their example in the east events may have been different.
So as a non-spanish citizen I say they commend respect.

Hi ckleisch, Im a relative of one of the fighters of the 250th Division, and Im telling to you an interesting fact that surely you didnt know. The first one division that had been completed in 1941, was mostly composed by spanish fascist volunteers, of the Falange Party.
But the members of the Party, had suffered a hard winter and suffered a lot of deaths. So, in the replacements for 1942, the most part of the soldiers were poor young spanish boys who were deceived by the government, who promised them great salaries of german soldiers, 3 foods per day, and the most important thing... the families who had been republicans during the civil war, would obtain the "pardon" of the Franco dictatorship, if a member of that family joined the german Division.

What I mean, is that all these members were not Franquist's that support unconditionaly the government of Hitler, they were mostly poor young boys that were manipulated for joining the army during the war.

My uncle, still under aged, was killed by a sovietic sniper in the suburbs of Leningrad.
