French volunteer story

I have found memoirs of French soldier Marc Kussmail who was born in the region of "Alsacie". He was conscripted into Wehrmacht in 1942. He wrote that he was sent to training camp in the direction east to Cracow, Poland. There, he has been trained and then sent to Balkans to fight with Tito troops. What is the possible name of that unit in which he served?
Which Wehrmacht troops has some concripted people from "Alsacie"?

Hello Tony,
The SS-Pz.A.A.2 "Das Reich" had some conscripts from Elsass (Alsace)
They also participated in the incident in Tulle 1944, one of them
has written a book about his time in the SS, his pseudo. is "Sadi Schneid"
and the title of the book is: "SS-Beutedeutsch" published by AskAnia verlag. Max Hastings have itnerviewed "Sadi Schneid" and published some
facts in his book about "Das Reich" in France 1944.
Best reg.
Georg

Elsass/Alsace It depends who you asking... For me it´s Elsass as muchPapageiStaffel wrote:Hi,
About 130 000 Alsaciens ( alsacians) and mosellans ( people from Moselle in Lorraine) were enlisted in the german army ( Heer, Luftwaffe, waffen SS,... ). More than 40 000 didn't come back home.
Just to nitpick, it's Alsace.
So long.
as Gdansk always will be Danzig, Kaliningrad will always be Königsberg
etc.
If you ask a lot of older Germans they say that what you think East-
Germany is, for them it´s Middle-Germany, because East Germany today
is in Poland. The Soviet wouldn´t give back the land they occupied in 1939
of Poland so they made the "easiest" way and "moved" Poland into Germany.
BTW SS-Ogruf Theodor Eicke was born in Elsass.

Hi,
It was too dangerous to regroup them in the same units. They were spread in several units, the most often on the east front. Some of them had even fought the germans in 1940.
To Georg my nitpick on "Alsace" was only on the spelling ( Alsace not Alsacie), there wasn't french nationalism behind my nitpick.

Link is either broken or won't load for me. The name doesn't come up in a google search aside from this thread.
